Spirited farmer Ole Offor inherits the indebted Enekær farm and its stud on Zealand. He marries Bente, daughter of the former owner, initially as a convenience. Their marriage soon deepens, and together they battle the crushing debt, Bente’s malicious stepmother, and her scheming lover, riding master Wilders.
