The Other Francisco

Set in the early 1800s Cuba, during the height of the plantation system. The period is marked by slave labor, strict discipline, and the presence of international interest from powers like Britain. The narrative situates a society on the brink of upheaval, where industrialization and capital pressures begin to reshape enslaved labor and resistance.

The story unfolds on a Cuban sugar plantation, a harsh, enclosed world where enslaved workers toil in the fields and are watched by overseers. The stables, nursing home, and bagasse sheds are part of the plantation's infrastructure, illustrating a routine built on control, punishment, and forced labor. The environment reflects a colonial economy where wealth is extracted from sugar cane, while families are torn apart by rules and ownership.
