The Only Mom

Nine Nine, his wife May, and their autistic daughter Siri relocate to Yay-Nan-Chaung for Nine Nine's new magazine editor position. They settle into a quaint old colonial house, where Nine Nine discovers antique glass photographs of the house's former owner, Daung, and his adopted children. He decides to leave the portraits as they are, intrigued by their lifelike, mirror-like quality.

Upon settling in, Nine Nine notices the portraits on the walls, created with an old mirror photography technique that makes the figures seem alive. He is drawn to their uncanny realism and keeps the arrangement intact. The eerie display foreshadows the house's supernatural atmosphere and foreshadows Siri's experiences.

On the second night, Siri wakes and searches for her beloved doll, wandering into the attic. There she meets Thida, a girl around her age, who is playing with the doll. The two girls form an instant bond, but Thida conceals that she is a trapped spirit linked to her mother in the house.

Thida explains she has been watching over the house and begins to manipulate Siri. She offers Siri a way to capture her own soul using her father's camera, revealing a dangerous plan to trap Siri inside the camera. The revelation deepens the sense that the house hides darker forces.

Days pass with Siri sleeping through the day and waking only at night, unsettling her parents who fear a malevolent influence. The nocturnal pattern disrupts family life and hints at a supernatural grip on Siri. The parents struggle to understand the cause and protect her.

One night, Aung Thura hears Siri’s voice calling through the air, jolting him into nightmares of Siri becoming abnormal. The next morning, he discovers an old photograph of the children who once lived in the house tucked away in storage. He begins an investigation to learn their fate and the truth behind the haunting.

Reluctant at first, May resists the idea of possession, but the family decides to seek help from a spirit medium called Nat Ka Taw. The goal is to free Siri’s spirit from the house and restore family harmony. The decision marks a turning point in their struggle with the supernatural.

During the exorcism attempt, Daung’s spirit—claiming to be the mother of the adopted children—blocks the intervention. May confronts the daunting truth that the house is entangled with multiple spirits and that Daung's hold is strong. The confrontation raises the stakes for Siri's safety.

In a bold move, May jumps into a nearby lake to reach the spirit realm and rescue Siri. Her selfless act opens a path to freeing Siri from the haunting. The sacrifice alters the family’s fate and deepens the emotional stakes.

Shortly after May’s act, she dies, and her spirit becomes trapped within the house’s walls along with Thida, who had long desired a mother’s warmth. Daung’s spirit, by contrast, finds peace. The house quiets, but grief lingers as the family confronts their loss.

With the haunting resolved but the sorrow lingering, Siri and her father decide to depart from Yay-Nan-Chaung for good. They leave behind memories of the house and its spirits. The journey marks a fresh chapter away from the town for a new start.
