Set deep within a forest, druids and warriors plot vengeance against the Romans. Norma, a revered priestess, finds herself scorned by the Roman proconsul Pollione, the father of her two children. Her affection turns to anger when she learns Pollione has begun a relationship with Adalgisa, another priestess. As Pollione's status declines, he is offered as a sacrifice, and Norma offers him freedom on one condition, leading to a dramatic confrontation.
