Plot Summary
A cursed sea captain and his doomed crew are the focus of this visually stunning production of Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman. Director François Girard, known for his acclaimed Parsifal staging, presents a new vision with sweeping sets that evoke a vast oil painting. Valery Gergiev conducts a brilliant cast, including Evgeny Nikitin as the Dutchman and Anja Kampe as Senta, whose selfless love offers the captain a chance at redemption. Franz-Josef Selig and Sergey Skorokhodov also star in this live cinema transmission, part of the Met’s award-winning Live in HD series, reaching audiences worldwide.
