The Man from Toronto

The film opens with Teddy Jackson attempting to promote his fitness ventures using elastic bands, a sweatsuit, and non-contact boxing. All of his efforts are unsuccessful, highlighting his ongoing struggles as he tries to establish himself. These failures set the tone for his character as a lovable screw-up.

In a desert location, an assassin known as 'The Man From Toronto' arrives at a cabin to interrogate a suspect. He intimidates the suspect with a hot knife, forcing him to reveal crucial information before the suspect is ultimately shot and killed by another man. This sets up the assassin's dangerous reputation and the overarching threat.

Teddy gets ready to celebrate his anniversary with his wife Lori. Despite her love for him, Lori is aware of Teddy’s reputation as a screw-up and has low expectations, which influences his plans to create a romantic getaway, though a misreading leads to comedic misadventures.

Teddy arrives at work where his boss, Marty, is annoyed due to Teddy's poorly printed gym flyers lacking essential contact information. As a result, Marty fires Teddy, signaling a significant setback in Teddy's career and personal confidence.

Toronto, the assassin, is contacted by his Handler about a lucrative $2 million contract. Meanwhile, Teddy begins his misadventures after mistakenly going to a cabin instead of the Airbnb, where he is mistaken for The Man From Toronto and held hostage by thugs.

Teddy is taken to the basement with other hostages, believing he is in danger. He attempts to calm the terrified hostage, but when a flash grenade is dropped, FBI agents storm the house and arrest him, thinking he is the assassin. Teddy is now embroiled in a dangerous situation.

Teddy is interrogated by FBI agents who recognize he is not the actual assassin but need his help to track down the real threat, former Venezuelan Colonel Sebastian Marin. Teddy is tasked to pretend to be the real assassin to get close to Marin, with Agent Santoro assigned to keep an eye on Lori while Teddy is on this mission.

Toronto locates Teddy through his online ads and intercepts him at a hangar. He forces an agent to follow him onto a plane, which he then infiltrates mid-air, revealing himself as the real Toronto and engaging in a fight to rescue Teddy as the plane nearly crashes in a field, igniting a series of action sequences.

In their mission to capture Marin, Toronto and Teddy visit a tech convention where Teddy must interrogate and torture suspects to find Mr. Green. Chaos ensues when Teddy accidentally bleeds a suspect and pukes, but they ultimately identify Mr. Green, a key figure to locate Marin.

Teddy and Toronto are pursued by Miami, another assassin, who throws Teddy off a ledge during their escape. They fight off Miami and other assassins, showing Teddy’s surprising bravery and resourcefulness as they battle through various confrontations, including a final showdown at a factory.

The trio arrives at Marin’s hotel where they attempt to arrest him. Teddy poses as Toronto to deceive the assassins and FBI agents, resulting in Marin and his wife Daniela being captured. However, Toronto and Miami manage to escape, leaving chaos behind.

Teddy returns home to find Lori has left, worried about his behavior and what’s happening. He tries to reconcile with her at the train station, rushing to catch her before she departs, showing his desire to repair their relationship amidst the chaos.

Teddy and Toronto face off against The Handler and her men in a factory, where they fight to prevent a deadly plan. Teddy outwits The Handler by dropping her into a vat of hot liquid, ending her threat, and solidifying their alliance and victory.

Teddy reunites with Lori, and they intend to start anew, expecting a baby. Meanwhile, Toronto has opened his restaurant and is dating Annie, indicating a new chapter. Despite ongoing tensions, life starts to look brighter for all characters.

Despite the resolution, Toronto harbors plans for revenge against Teddy for destroying his car, hinting at future conflict. The film ends with a comedic note on the unresolved tension between the two, setting up potential sequels or ongoing rivalries.
