Marie (Annie Girardot), a divorced high‑school teacher, shares a class with her 16‑year‑old daughter. Believing in egalitarian friendships, she keeps her door open to students. When a protégée is found beaten outside, an ER doctor treats her, sparking an affair. As her daughter dates an unsuitable boy, Marie reexamines her open‑door policy.
