Norbu and Dolma, devout Buddhists in a Tibetan clan, are expelled after Norbu is accused of stealing from the temple. In poverty their first son Tashi dies of fever. When a second son is born, Norbu devotes himself to protecting the child, seeks the clan’s forgiveness for his family, and risks everything desperately to spare them from isolation, starvation and a harsh winter.
