A surreal eight‑minute tableau made by 19‑year‑old Orson Welles, co‑directed with William Vance in 1934. Virginia Nicholson and Welles play a lady on a bell and a dandy who smiles as a black‑face man hangs himself, while a cop and a shabby figure repeat the same stairs. The tolling bell, a grave and the dandy at piano hint at Death. Filmed while Welles attended the Todd School for Boys.
