Based on Truman Capote’s novel, this often‑witty coming‑of‑age drama follows Collin, who becomes an orphan in 1935 and is sent to live with his father’s cousins, the domineering, affluent Verena and her sister Dolly, in the Deep South of the 1940s. As Collin adjusts to the eccentric household, he, Dolly and the family maid rebel against Verena’s strict authority, ultimately fleeing to a tree‑house where they forge their own sense of freedom and belonging, echoing the film’s theme that love, like nature, is a chain of life.
