Caleb (Enrico Montesano), a thief posing as a magician in Galilee during Jesus’ ministry, survives. After witnessing Jesus turn water into wine, he treats miracle as competition and vows to expose him as fraud. He becomes involved with a prostitute (Edwige Fenech) and a Roman's wife (Bernadette Lafont), steals goats, cons locals, befriends dog and clashes with Roman soldiers.
