Mary, from a good family, defies her parents by marrying petty thief Steve Denby, leaving them poor. She answers a seamstress ad and is hired by Mrs. Hillary, who needs a substitute for the “prettiest girl in the world” to impress Roger Manning. Mary fills role, falls for Manning, and the Hillarys keep her for the weekend while deal remains pending.
