The Girl from Rio

Jeff Sutton arrives in Rio and checks into a hotel, trying to lay low after rumors of stolen money. He quickly connects with Lesley, a manicurist who seems oblivious to the crimes that chase him. The uneasy partnership sets the tone for the dangerous chase ahead.

Lesley finds a newspaper exposing Sutton's crimes and warns him that extradition is only the beginning of his problems. She suggests they run together and escape Rio before more powerful foes close in. Their dialogue hints at a possible alliance built on mutual need.

Sutton and Lesley head toward the airport to flee Rio, but pursuing minions force them to split up. Sutton ends up boarding a nearby plane, hoping to lose his pursuers. The plan is set to begin a perilous flight while Lesley faces capture.

Lesley is captured by Sir Macius's men in Rio as the chase for Sutton tightens. She is taken toward Macius's operations, setting up the next twist in the plot.

Lesley is brought before Sir Macius, where her role as an operative of Sunanda is recognized. Macius, curious about Sutton's fate, sees an opportunity to use Lesley's connections to leverage Sunanda.

Sutton is knocked out and taken to the secret city of Femina, where Sunanda tours her gleaming city and reveals her plan for world conquest financed by stolen money. Sunanda uses a radiation torture device to coerce Sutton into revealing the location of the supposedly hidden millions.

Sutton confesses that the money is a fantasy; Sunanda becomes enraged and leaves him and Ulla alone. Sutton and Ulla trick the guards and manage to escape from Femina, stealing one of Sunanda's planes to fly back toward Rio.

Sutton and Ulla reach Rio only to be captured by Carl, Macius's chief henchman, and brought before Sir Macius. Macius expresses disappointment that Sutton's money was nonexistent but realises Sutton could still be useful to him.

With Carnival time nearing, Macius sends a message to Sunanda via Lesley, offering Sutton in exchange for half of Sunanda's fortune. The stakes are raised as both sides maneuver for leverage.

Entering Rio in costume with her soldiers, Sunanda captures Ulla and Irene and orders Sutton to surrender in order to save their lives. Sutton yields himself to Sunanda's regime in hopes of protecting his friends.

Sunanda subjects Sutton to her torture machines as Ulla and Irene are kept in separate cells. The long torture is designed to extract the whereabouts of the hidden money, but Sutton's resolve wavers under pressure.

Femina comes under a helicopter assault by Sir Macius's strike force; Jeff's guards abandon him to defend Femina, allowing Sutton to break free and rescue Irene and Ulla. However, their path is blocked by Lesley, now revealed to Jeff as Sunanda's minion, forcing a tense choice about trust and survival. Jeff nevertheless convinces her to join the escape, with Ulla and Irene in tow.

Macius lands personally to seize Sunanda's riches, but Sunanda beats him to the prize and arms Femina's self-destruct to wipe out the wealth rather than share with any man. The city becomes a volatile battleground as soldiers scramble and loyalties collide.

Sutton barely escapes the collapsing Femina, as the blast destroys the city and its army. The fate of Sunanda and Macius is left ambiguous, with the explosion washing away the wealth and many of their forces.

In the closing scene, Sunanda is shown alive, leading a black-clad army as they board a ship leaving Rio. The empire of her plans remains intact, hinting at a future resurgence.
