The Gardener

At the end of Master Gardener, Narvel Roth, having faced his dark past and made significant steps toward redemption, confronts his former enemies RG and Sissy. After learning they had vandalized his estate in a fit of revenge and possibly revealed his past tattoos and beliefs, he decides not to kill them, even though he has the chance. Instead, Narvel chooses a path of justice over revenge by seriously injuring them—breaking their knees so they can’t cause more harm—showing he has moved beyond his old violent self. This act symbolizes his rejection of hatred and violence, signifying his progress in overcoming his past.

Later, Narvel visits Norma, the estate’s owner, and demands she fund the garden’s restoration for one more year and allow him and Maya to stay together as a couple in his cabin. Norma, initially furious and threatening, finds herself powerless when Narvel reveals her gun is empty. Through this, Narvel asserts control over his future, not through violence or intimidation, but through his words and his actions. His final move signals that he is finally breaking free from his past of hatred and prejudice, choosing a life of healing, love, and growth. The film closes with Narvel and Maya committed to rebuilding not only the garden but their lives, focusing on redemption, forgiveness, and personal transformation.
