The Feminist and the Fuzz

Jane Bowers and Jerry Frazer meet while viewing an apartment in San Francisco. Their clash over militant feminism versus traditional chivalry sets a tense tone. Faced with a shortage of affordable housing, they decide to share the apartment by posing as a married couple.

To solve the housing problem, they agree to pretend they are a married couple so they can share the apartment. Since their work schedules don't overlap, the ruse seems plausible. Jane openly informs Wyatt, her liberal fiancé, about the arrangement.

Jerry decides to keep the arrangement secret from his girlfriend Kitty, who works at the Playboy Club. He wrestles with balancing professional duties and personal desires as the lie grows heavier.

Debby, a fellow militant women's libber, organizes a disruptive swimsuit protest at the Playboy Club. Police respond, and Jerry is among them, enforcing order. The clash highlights the ideological rift between Jane and Jerry.

During the protest, Jerry spots Jane in a bikini and chooses not to arrest her, sending her home in a taxi instead. This moment stings Jane, exposing a rift between their professional roles and personal feelings.

In response to the discord, Jane calls her father, whose concern drives him into town. His arrival foreshadows mounting family tensions surrounding Jane.

Lilah, a prostitute and aspiring porn actress, asks Jerry to arrest her so she can sleep somewhere. He reluctantly lets her stay in the apartment overnight while he's at work, blurring boundaries further.

Jerry finds a note from Jane saying she will leave because of his alleged 'sexual bigotry.' The revelation deepens the rift and accelerates the unraveling of their arrangement.

Jane's father arrives and is let in by the landlord. He encounters Lilah and mistakenly assumes she is Jane's roommate, increasing the confusion about who is staying where.

Jerry rushes home after learning Jane has left work early; the truth about the living arrangement begins to surface. The facade starts to crumble as real feelings collide with the lie.

Kitty arrives and recognizes Jane from the protest, while Wyatt and Debby also appear, heightening the confrontation. Kitty confronts Jerry as Debby’s movement looms larger in the scene.

Jerry confesses his love for Jane, who runs away in confusion as Kitty disavows him and aligns with Debby’s WAM campaign. Wyatt’s attraction to Debby’s dominance is hinted, and Jerry chases Jane into the street, where they embrace and kiss, causing traffic to back up.
