The film portrays the morals and customs of Upper Austria’s “native peoples” as interpreted by a team of Sub‑Saharan African anthropologists who adopt the investigative style of European and American scholars working in non‑Western contexts. During filming they encounter unexpected cultural phenomena, and director Wippersberg critiques and inverts conventional Western ethnographic methods by turning the scholarly study itself into a documentary narrative.
