The Eye

Blind since age 5, Wong Kar Mun undergoes a cornea transplant and experiences an immediate surge of sight as the donor eyes take effect. At first she revels in the restored vision, noticing colors and details she once could only imagine. But soon the new eyes catch unsettling visions that hint at impending deaths.

With her sight restored, Mun begins seeing mysterious figures who appear to foretell fatal events. The visions disturb her daily life, blurring the line between reality and prophecy. She struggles to understand whether the figures are hallucinations or premonitions.

The night before her discharge, Mun sees a shadowy figure accompanying a patient out of the room. The next morning, that patient is pronounced dead, confirming that the visions may be more than dreams. The incident unsettles Mun and deepens her fear of what her new sight might reveal.

Mun seeks help from Dr Wah, a psychotherapist who is initially skeptical of the supernatural explanations for her sights. As they spend time together, his skepticism softens and he decides to accompany her on her quest. Their professional relationship gradually grows into personal trust.

To uncover the truth about Ling, the eye donor, Mun and Dr Wah travel to northern Thailand. The trip shifts from medical mystery to a historical investigation into Ling’s life and abilities. They hope to learn whether Ling’s vision may have influenced Mun’s own new sight.

In a Thai village, a local doctor is unwilling to reveal Ling’s family history but gradually cooperates when Mun explains she can see what Ling once saw. The doctor recounts Ling’s psychic gift and how villagers misunderstood her. Ling’s ability to foresee disasters becomes a central piece of the mystery.

Ling faced social rejection as a suspected jinx after attempting to warn people of a looming disaster. When her warnings were ignored, she felt immense guilt and hanged herself. Ling’s mother remains depressed and angry, never forgiving Ling until later when events force a confrontation.

Ling’s spirit briefly possesses Mun and even attempts to take her own life. Ling’s mother intervenes, saving Mun and finally forgiving Ling for the past. The possession ends with Ling’s spirit leaving Mun in peace, but the emotional mark remains.

On the return journey, Mun’s visions escalate as their bus becomes stuck in a massive traffic jam. She sees hundreds of ghostly figures lumbering along the road and tries to warn the passengers to evacuate. Most people dismiss her as insane, blocking any chance to avert danger.

A toppled tank truck leaks natural gas into the air, and a driver restarts the engine and ignites it, triggering a chain explosion. Dr. Wah shields Mun with his body, saving her from the blast, though glass fragments blind her again. The disaster confirms Mun’s worst fears about the visions, and the cost is heavy.

In the epilogue, Mun roams the streets of Hong Kong as a blind woman once more. She is no longer alone, having gained the friendship and support of Dr Wah, which gives her a sense of hope and belonging despite her loss of sight. The film closes on a note of resilience and companionship.
