In the 1950s Lithuanian countryside, villagers cling to the modest hope offered by tiny personal farms despite the loss of an independent Lithuania and the looming Soviet future. A subtle love story unfolds: a surveyor is haunted by Pranė’s unrequited love, his wife Amilia loves Zigmas, while the village philosopher Anicetas reminds them that where there is eternal darkness, there is also eternal light.
