In 2018, the Pierce family faces a heart-wrenching tragedy when Doug, the family's patriarch and a dedicated firefighter, loses his life in the line of duty. This incident deeply affects the family, leaving Claire to grapple with the responsibility of holding them together during a time meant for celebration.

As the matriarch, Claire finds it difficult to keep the family united, particularly with her eldest son Teddy descending into a life of crime. Meanwhile, the youngest, Kate, seeks to nurture the remaining holiday spirit amid the chaos.

On Christmas Eve, Claire is called to cover a shift at work, leaving Teddy in charge of Kate. As they watch old holiday videos together, Kate becomes fixated on proving that Santa Claus is real after spotting an unusual arm in the fireplace.

Determined to catch Santa in the act, Kate blackmails Teddy into helping her set up a trap for Santa. They rig a trip wire connected to a bell and set up a hidden camera, excitedly awaiting the arrival of the jolly man.

As the bell jingles, Kate awakens to see Santa Claus in their living room, although he disappears before Teddy can confirm his presence. The siblings rush outside, only to glimpse Santa’s sleigh and reindeer high above their heads.

In a spur of excitement, Kate decides to hide in Santa's sleigh when he returns, leading to an unexpected adventure. The sleigh takes off, but chaos begins when Santa loses control, resulting in a crash in Chicago.

After the crash, Santa introduces himself to Kate and Teddy, revealing the urgency of his predicament. He explains that he must recover his lost magical hat and save the Christmas Spirit from disappearing further.

Santa, along with the children, embarks on a quest to find his magical hat. They stop at a bar where Santa tries to reconnect with the spirit of Christmas by recalling past wishes of patrons, but struggles to make an impact.

Faced with an increasing sense of urgency, Santa and the children resort to stealing a Dodge Challenger to expedite their efforts. Inside the car, Santa creatively constructs a radio to communicate with the police as they search for reinforcements.

Once they locate Santa's reindeer, they are confronted by Officers Povenda and Jameson. In a moment of suspense, Teddy acts as a distraction, while Kate courageously tries to chase down the reindeer.

Amidst the chaos, Kate finds herself magically transported to the North Pole, where she meets Santa's elves. Through her unwavering belief in Christmas, she inspires the elves to assist her in rescuing her brother and Santa.

While Teddy continues to battle thugs, Santa faces skepticism at the precinct where he performs a Christmas song to convince officers of his authenticity. His faith in the spirit of Christmas is challenged as he seeks their help.

With dawn approaching, Teddy, Kate, and Santa unite to deliver the last of the Christmas presents. With the help of elves, they race against time, and Teddy takes the reins, successfully completing their mission.

Upon their return home, Santa gifts Teddy his magical hat as a cherished symbol of their adventure. Kate excitedly documents the experience but discovers that Santa has mysteriously taken the tape containing their memories.

When Claire arrives home on Christmas morning, the family finds their living room beautifully decorated in remembrance of Doug. Among the gifts, Kate uncovers a skateboard and a heartfelt letter for Teddy, leading to emotional revelations about their father's legacy.
