The story starts in A.D. 33 Jerusalem, where Clarence struggles to survive amid numerous challenges. His fate becomes entwined with that of his friend, Elijah, as they both navigate the harsh realities of their lives.

A disastrous chariot race involving Mary Magdalene serves as an ominous sign of the troubles to come. Clarence and Elijah's misfortunes begin to escalate as they encounter unexpected dangers.

Clarence finds himself deep in debt with the ruthless loan shark, Jedediah the Terrible. Despite his troubles, he secretly harbors feelings for Varinia, Jedediah's sister, complicating his situation even further.

Roman soldiers unjustly accuse Clarence and Elijah of theft, showcasing the racial profiling prevalent in their society. This incident highlights the struggles they face simply because of who they are.

Amidst his escalating troubles, Clarence succumbs to drug addiction, drifting into a world filled with despair. One day, surrounded by fellow addicts, he dreams of becoming a false messiah, hoping to erase his debts.

Clarence attempts to pitch his scheme to the Twelve Apostles, seeking validation for his self-proclaimed messiah status. Instead, he is met with ridicule and is dismissed by his own twin brother Thomas, who is embittered by their past.

In a pivotal moment, Judas proposes that Clarence prove himself by liberating a group of gladiators. This opportunity presents Clarence with a chance to elevate his status and reputation.

Using cunning strategy, Clarence triumphs in a duel against the gladiators’ owner to secure their freedom. This victory also grants him the allegiance of Barabbas, setting the stage for future adventures.

As his journey unfolds, Clarence begins to perform 'miracles,' including resurrecting Elijah. This newfound ability leads to unexpected wealth accumulation and boosts his self-image as a messiah.

Clarence and Barabbas approach Mary and Joseph to learn how to replicate Jesus’ miracles. However, they are reminded that true divinity cannot be mimicked, highlighting Clarence's growing disillusionment.

At an extravagant event, Varinia betrays Clarence, shattering his trust. Meanwhile, Jedediah, lurking nearby, moves to claim payment from entertainers, further escalating the tension.

Clarence is apprehended by the Romans and interrogated by Pontius Pilate. During the process, he admits his deception, calling himself a charlatan, but Pilate challenges him to succeed in a test of divinity.

Facing crucifixion alongside Benjamin, Clarence reflects on his false prophet journey. As he is surrounded by friends and witnesses, he experiences a profound sense of impending destiny.

After his crucifixion, Jesus visits Clarence's tomb, forgiving his past doubts and restoring him to life. Clarence, reborn with newfound enlightenment, transforms into a true believer, illuminating the darkness around him.
