The Beyond

In 2019, an unexplained anomaly emerges above Earth, disrupting global communications and causing a blackout on the International Space Station. Astronaut Jim Marcell goes missing during this chaotic event, and he is presumed dead.

The anomaly, later named 'The Void', is revealed to have appeared previously in 1990, remaining visible for two months before vanishing. This historical context raises alarm about its reappearance and the potential dangers it poses to humanity.

Under the leadership of Gillian Laroux, the Space Agency begins sending probes into The Void to gather information. Unfortunately, communication with the probes is lost, but the subsequent data analysis suggests that The Void may be a wormhole with an unknown planet on the other side.

Cosmologist Jessica Johnson argues that this anomaly represents a potential first contact event with extraterrestrial life. However, her claims are met with skepticism, leading to tension among the scientists at the Space Agency regarding the safety of further investigations.

As concerns about The Void escalate, a secret US military organization offers their advanced robotics technology, named Human 2.0, to assist the Space Agency. This technology is designed to merge human brains with synthetic bodies, enabling better functionality for space missions.

The Space Agency considers several candidates for the Human 2.0 project. However, the initial attempt to fuse the brain of drone pilot Carl Roberts with a synthetic body fails, resulting in his tragic death and prompting a reassessment of the program.

After grappling with the loss of her colleague, Jessica Johnson decides to volunteer as the next candidate for the Human 2.0 project. This time, the fusion procedure is successful, giving her the chance to explore The Void with a Human 2.0 soldier.

Johnson and the Human 2.0 soldier are launched into The Void, where Johnson experiences stunning visuals of lights before their sudden disappearance. The mission is fraught with uncertainty about what lies beyond the anomaly.

Five days later, the mission capsule returns unexpectedly with only Jessica Johnson aboard. The craft appears aged, suggesting it had endured a lengthy experience in space, raising questions about the fate of the Human 2.0 soldier who accompanied her.

After her return, Johnson is placed in quarantine while scientists attempt to retrieve data from her brain. They discover that she has accumulated several years of memories, far in excess of the week-long mission duration.

Upon awakening, Johnson recounts her memories of The Void, stating she witnessed a blinding light and that the Human 2.0 soldier vanished from the spacecraft in a moment of fear. She believes the soldier's arm detonated in a catastrophic event.

Back on Earth, military factions escalate their attacks on The Spheres, which are mistakenly viewed as threats. Tensions peak as the world faces a planet-destroying event triggered by the debris from the solar system's destruction.

In a surprising twist, The Spheres transform and form a protective barrier around Earth. This moment reveals that their presence was misunderstood, as they are actually there to safeguard humanity from impending doom.

After the chaos subsides, Jim Marcell is found unharmed in the Arizona desert but has no memory of his experiences in The Void. His return offers a glimmer of hope amidst the confusion and aftermath of the anomaly's effects.

In the aftermath, a new solar system emerges with a planet nearly identical to Earth, offering humanity a renewed chance. As the film concludes, Human 2.0s on this Earth 2.0 encounter lifeforms from The Void, hinting at a promising future ahead.
