The Amazing Mr. Blunden

In 1918, war widow Mrs. Allen and her children are living in a squalid Camden Town flat. A mysterious old man, Mr Frederick Percival Blunden, visits and introduces himself as a solicitor’s representative, offering the family a chance to become caretakers of Langley Park.

The family accepts the post and moves to Langley Park, a derelict country mansion in the Home Counties. The house is haunted in rumor and the air is thick with mystery as they settle in to care for it until heirs can be traced.

At the solicitor’s office, the family sees a portrait that resembles Mr Blunden. The solicitor confirms the portrait is of a man named Mr Blunden who has been dead for a hundred years, while the present Mr Blunden is his great-grandson.

Lucy and Jamie glimpse two ghostly children, Sara Latimer and Georgie, wandering the grounds. The siblings explain they are orphans under the care of their Uncle Bertie and the solicitor Mr Blunden, from a century earlier.

Uncle Bertie marries a music hall performer, Bella Wickens, and her parents move into Langley Park as housekeeper and gamekeeper. The family suspects Bella and Bertie may be plotting to harm the children to secure Georgie’s inheritance.

Sara and Georgie find a book with instructions for traveling through time, offering a chance to change the past. Lucy and Jamie volunteer to travel back with them, planning to meet Sara the next day.

Jamie searches the graveyard, hoping to confirm safety, and discovers a gravestone for Sara and Georgie. The sexton explains the two children died in a fire on the anniversary of their deaths, exactly a hundred years earlier.

Lucy and Jamie drink the potion and travel back to Langley Park in 1818, hoping to avert the tragedy. They meet Thomas the gardener, who mistakes them for visitors from America and expresses a desire to go there himself.

That night in 1818, Mr Blunden visits Langley Park but refuses to listen to Sara’s pleas for help. The family’s plight grows more urgent as danger looms.

The children are locked in a room above the library and given a sleeping potion. Mr Wickens starts a fire in the library, trapping them as smoke and flames spread.

Jamie helps Tom save Sara, but returns for Georgie and is blocked by flames. Mr Blunden appears, guiding Jamie to safety; Blunden endures the pain Jamie would have felt. Jamie and Blunden rescue Georgie as the staircase collapses, and Blunden perishes while the Wickens also perish.

Lucy and Jamie return to 1918, with Jamie unconscious and Lucy unable to tell their mother what happened. The truth of their journey remains hidden for now.

In the graveyard, Lucy discovers that the children’s gravestone has been replaced by a gravestone for Frederick Percival Blunden, the 'Good Shepherd' who died to save them. Closer inspection reveals Sara Latimer married Thomas and their great-grandson is the late Mr. Allen.

Documents show Sara Latimer married Thomas and their great-grandson is the late Mr. Allen, making Jamie the rightful heir to Langley Park.

A car arrives and Mr Clutterbuck opens the door to reveal Mr Blunden waiting inside. The enigmatic greeting 'We three kings of Orient are' signals that many questions are answered. The film ends with the cast saying goodbye to the audience as their names appear on screen.
