The film starts at a raucous party where Cole searches for his brother Duckett. Cole discovers Duckett locked in a room, mumbles to himself, and is in a disheveled state.

In a moment of panic, Cole breaks down the door to rescue Duckett. The scene escalates when Duckett, in a fit of madness, stabs Cole before turning the knife on himself outside, shocking the partygoers.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old Mia copes with the second anniversary of her mother Rhea's death, which she believes was an accidental overdose. She feels distant from her father Max, as they struggle with their mutual grief.

While driving home with her younger brother Riley, Mia comes across a kangaroo that has been hit by a car. She hesitates when Riley suggests ending its suffering, ultimately choosing to drive around it instead.

Jade persuades Mia to accompany her to a party where Jade's boyfriend Daniel will be present. They sneak out, with Riley following, eager to join the older teens in the festivities.

At the party, the group gathers around to play a game involving an embalmed hand to conjure spirits. Mia volunteers to go first, and as she grabs the hand, she is immediately drawn into a terrifying spiritual encounter.

The group plays the game again at Jade’s house, this time Riley wants to participate despite his age. When possessed, Riley eerily communicates with Mia, claiming to be Rhea’s spirit, which leads to a chaotic scene where he injures himself.

After Riley's incident, Mia attempts to visit him at the hospital, only to be rejected by Jade and Sue. Feeling isolated, she seeks comfort in Daniel, complicating her emotional turmoil.

In an attempt to communicate with Rhea's spirit, Mia discovers that her mother’s death was not an accident, leading to feelings of betrayal towards her father. The revelation comes at a crucial moment as spirits torment Riley.

Mia engages with the hand again, desperate to connect with Riley and save him. She realizes that he is amidst a swarm of malevolent spirits, heightening the tension between the living and the undead.

In a twist of fate, Mia struggles with the spirits and tries to hurt Riley, but cannot go through with it. A confrontation with Jade leads to Mia being pushed into traffic, resulting in a tragic accident.

Mia awakens in the hospital, confused and unaware of her death. She witnesses Riley’s recovery and realizes her father's survival, but she is invisible and unheard, trapped in her own purgatory.

As Mia reaches for a glowing hand in a moment of desperation, she is transported to another country. Here, she finds herself unwittingly partaking in the same game, a haunting cycle of despair and connection.
