A handful of recruits train for a war whose purpose and motive are unknown. Their commander is a general who toys with a Marx puppet and lives in a palace that looks like a modest cabin. He is aided by a captain in Arabic dress behind a curtain and a trainee sergeant. Their training is plagued by accidents until orders finally come for the front.
