Everything changes for fifteen‑year‑old Heinz Stielke, a Hitler Youth member, when he discovers his war‑hero father was actually Jewish. He is expelled from school, loses his friends, and his mother dies in a bombing raid. A police officer arranges a place for him in an orphanage, but en route he is seized by the SS and sent to a training camp.
