Following the destruction of Alderaan, Darth Vader orders all Imperial forces to hunt down any refugees who escaped the planet’s devastation. Captain Lindon Javes of the Imperial Navy is tasked by Commodore Rae Sloane to lead Helix Squadron in locating and eliminating a convoy of refugees at Fostar Haven. Yet, moved by what he witnesses, Javes breaks from his orders, disables his wingmen’s ships, and protects the refugees. The convoy sends a distress signal to the Rebel Alliance, which responds with Echo Squadron to aid in the convoy’s escape. After the ensuing battle, Javes defects to the Alliance, offering his deep knowledge of Imperial Fleet protocols to earn their trust.

Four years after the Empire’s defeat at the Battle of Endor, Commander Javes leads the New Republic cruiser Temperance and its elite fighter squadron, Vanguard Squadron. He is assigned to a secret venture known as Starhawk, a colossal battleship built from stolen Star Destroyers and equipped with a formidable tractor beam. The project represents a bold, if controversial, effort to shift the balance of power within the galaxy, and Vanguard pursues a series of missions to push Starhawk toward completion.

On the Imperial side, Imperial Captain Terisa Kerrill, Javes’ former protégé and wingmate from Fostar, is driven by a personal need for vengeance against him. She commands Titan Squadron and seeks to thwart the New Republic’s progress toward finishing Starhawk. Titan Squadron’s early successes are tempered by Kerrill’s impulsive judgments, and she is drawn into a trap that nearly destroys her Star Destroyer, the Overseer. Refusing to concede defeat, Kerrill forgoes repairs, quickly rearming the Overseer with the aim of destroying Starhawk—even if it costs her life.

A bold assault by Imperial forces at the Nadiri Dockyards deals heavy damage to Starhawk, yet the ship manages to slip away. In a desperate bid to defend what remains, Javes takes personal command of Anvil Squadron but is shot down and presumed dead. The Starhawk sustains additional damage in a secondary strike by Titan Squadron, while Vanguard Squadron, now led by General Hera Syndulla, makes a final stand. They manage to use Starhawk’s remnants to ram the fleet into an unstable moon, triggering a catastrophic explosion that destroys the Imperial fleet. A wounded Javes survives and helps Vanguard escape, while Kerrill, having departed the battle earlier with the Overseer after completing her mission to destroy the Starhawk prototype, watches events unfold from a distance.

In the aftermath, Titan and Vanguard Squadrons are each praised for their roles, and the New Republic plans to build additional Starhawk-class battleships. The Empire, meanwhile, gears up with renewed resolve to reclaim influence across the galaxy. The conflict closes on a note of shifting power and fragile alliances, as both sides evaluate what comes next in a galaxy torn between rebellion, duty, and the enduring desire for control.
