Speak White is a French‑language poem by Québécois writer Michèle Lalonde, written in 1968, first recited in 1970 and published by Editions de l’Hexagone in 1974. It condemns the marginalisation of French‑speakers in Quebec and voices a collective grievance against English‑speaking Quebecers. In 1980 the poem was filmed as a six‑minute short starring Marie Eykel, produced by Pierre Falardeau and Julien Poulin for the National Film Board of Canada.
