In 2016, the death of young Cree man Colten Boushie, shot on Gerald Stanley’s property, sparked a national controversy. Stanley’s subsequent acquittal brought intense scrutiny to Canada’s legal system and highlighted issues of racism. The film sensitively explores Boushie’s story, his family’s fight for justice, and the filmmaker's personal connection to the case through adoption. It also examines the lasting impacts of colonialism on Indigenous communities and envisions a future where Indigenous children can live safely on their traditional lands.
