Speak of the Devil

During his first satellite broadcast, Reverend Jonah Johnson pretends to heal a man in a wheelchair. An IRS agent watches the scene with skepticism. A redneck father disrupts the live feed, claiming to be the father of his daughter’s unborn child. Johnson flees the chaos, pursued by the actor who played the fake paraplegic, and a local officer briefly arrests him before letting him go.

Johnson and Isabelle escape to Los Angeles and discover a derelict, boarded-up house. They decide to rebuild their phony church inside it, turning the ruin into a new base of operations. The couple begins to lay the groundwork for their deceptive ministry as the city carries on unaware.

While negotiating the purchase with realtor Mrs. Wigglesworth, her son Bobby tries to tell the couple about a cult that murdered a young girl in the house. He is hushed by his mother, who dismisses the tale as superstition. The Johnsons ignore the warning and proceed with the sale.

On their first night, the house appears haunted by a possessed toilet that spits smoke and a gang of punkers hiding drugs inside. A police officer named Steve Seligman intervenes and scares the intruders away. The couple senses a malevolent presence taking root in their new home.

The next day, the Johnsons hire Mexican workers to clean and repair the house. One worker is abducted and killed by the demon living there, his screams muffled by the whir of a power saw. The house’s evil energy grows stronger as the days pass.

The realtor reveals that Jonah’s check bounced because the IRS has frozen his accounts. An IRS agent returns, pursuing the fugitives. Desperate, the couple accepts a briefcase of cash from a mysterious woman named Lady Caligari, despite warnings from Rabbi Ben Tov.

Isabelle acquires a book of evil and begins to transform, planning to open a Church of Latter Day Sin with the motto 'Sin today without guilt.' Jonah resists, hoping to stay loyal to God. They are joined again by Mort and Eve as the house’s corrupting influence deepens.

The punkers crash the Johnsons’ first church gathering, which includes the realtor and her son. The demon in the basement appears, urinates on the pulpit, and escapes through a window. Before leaving, it grants the punkers a wish: the police harassing them die, Mort gains the ability to see the future, and Isabelle’s power grows.

The next day, Officer Seligman and the punkers confront police at the park, witnessing their dramatic deaths in a crash with a garbage truck. Maggot attains a larger bust size and the punkers decide to join Isabelle’s church. The house’s influence continues to spread.

The church begins ritual sacrifices of chickens and goats, while Mort’s visions help Isabelle manipulate the stock market for wealth. They learn of an exhibit of museum artifacts associated with devil worship and Count Dracula, which the punkers steal for Isabelle’s collection. Officer Seligman tracks the relics to the church but is temporarily thwarted.

A church gathering with the stolen relics culminates in an orgy and the death of a punker who impales himself on a relic. The blasphemous momentum reaches a violent peak as more lives are endangered. Jonah grows increasingly uneasy about the path he has helped create.

Jonah seeks spiritual guidance but finds none among local ministers. Rabbi Ben Tov tells him only self-sacrifice can cleanse his soul. The Devil orders Isabelle to sacrifice Eve to break Jonah’s resolve, and Eve crosses paths with Officer Seligman as he investigates her wearing relics.

Rabbi Ben Tov attempts to exorcise the house with his shofar but is killed by the demon. Mort doses Eve to keep her for sacrifice while Maggot brings Officer Seligman to the house. The punkers close in as the ritual threat intensifies.

Jonah refuses to sacrifice Eve; the Devil materializes behind him, and Jonah impales both himself and the Devil with a sword. A fire erupts, Seligman saves Eve with the shofar, and the house burns as demons drag Isabelle and Mort to Hell. The bizarre plumbing series continues with a third plumber arriving to repair the cursed toilet.

Jonah emerges alive from the burned house, declaring that he has found God and will resume his ministry. The Southern cop who let him go is later seen on TV while his elderly mother, having witnessed Jonah heal arthritis, punches him in disbelief.
