“Smoking” and “No Smoking” are two interlinked segments adapted from a set of eight stage stories, each reduced to three narratives. Mid‑film, the five women (all played by Sabine Azema) and four men (all played by Pierre Arditi) are shown in alternate “what‑if” scenarios that explore the consequences of their choices. “No Smoking” centers on the contrast between the timid Miles Coombes and his far more forceful, ambitious wife Rowena, while “Smoking” follows parallel lives altered by different decisions.
