What Is Slices of Life About? (No Spoilers)

The plot of Slices of Life (2010) without spoilers: what it is about, who it follows and where it takes place, told without the twists or the ending. Enough to decide whether it is your next watch, not enough to ruin it.

A woman named Mira (Kaylee Williams) wakes in front of a weathered roadside motel with no memory of who she is or how she arrived. Drawn to three peculiar, flesh-bound sketchbooks left within reach, she begins to piece together fragments of a life she cannot recall — and finds that each volume represents a different corner of human existence.

The film unfolds as an anthology of horrors, introduced through the warped imagination of Anthony G. Sumner's Gallery of Fear, where terrors spring from the ordinary and the grotesque hides behind every familiar face. From corporate corridors to quiet suburban homes, from intimate encounters to chance meetings on lonely roads, the tone drips with creeping dread and dark, pulpy invention. Sexual parasites, rabid office workers, demon children, and other nightmarish figures populate a world where reality feels like a page torn loose from something forbidden.

Each sketchbook offers Mira a window into an unsettling scenario. One volume probes the suffocating dread of the workplace, where ambition and routine curdle into something monstrous. Another explores the fragile sanctuary of home, where expectant joy is shadowed by sinister forces circling in the dark. The third ventures into the most personal and shadowy territory, where desire becomes a gateway for ancient, hungry things. As she turns the pages, the line between the stories and her own predicament begins to blur, leaving Mira — and the audience — uncertain where the books end and reality begins.

Surrounded by the motel's peculiar caretakers (Marv Blauvelt and Helene Alter-Dyche), Mira senses that the answers to her missing past are bound within these grotesque pages. Whether the horrors spilling out around her are creations of her fractured mind or something far more tangible, the sketchbooks hold a destiny she may not be able to escape.
