The ending of Sirens leaves viewers with a complex and unsettling feeling. Throughout the series, Simone seeks freedom from her traumatic past and a life that feels out of reach, while her sister Devon tries to protect their father, Bruce, and keep her family together. In the final moments, Simone is standing at the cliff’s edge, gazing into the sunset with a small, almost knowing smile. This imagery suggests she might have achieved her goal of escaping her pain and her previous life, or at least accepted her version of peace. However, there’s a darker, more ambiguous undertone. Simone’s character has always been intertwined with trauma and a desire for love—both dangerous and desperate. In the finale, Peter also reveals his true intent. While he appears to propose to Simone, he is ultimately interested in turning her into a trophy wife, similar to how he replaced Michaela. Simone, aware of this, is perhaps aware that her escape is only temporary, and her new life might be as fleeting as her previous ones. Michaela’s forgiveness of Simone on the ferry emphasizes a theme of sisterhood and unconditional care, viewing Simone as still deserving love despite her mistakes. Meanwhile, Devon chooses to stay with her father, showing her love through her choice to care for him rather than run away. All these elements culminate in a picture of cycles—of trauma, manipulation, and fleeting freedom—that leave the story open-ended, with Simone standing at the edge of her future, uncertain but still fighting to find her place. The show suggests that Simone’s journey toward healing is far from over, hinting that, like Michaela, she might eventually end up trapped in a cycle of longing and self-destruction, unable to escape her inner demons. Her small smile at the end hints at acceptance or resignation, but the unresolved nature of her story implies her fight for peace has just begun.
