Set in 1919 as German forces withdraw from Ukraine, the Ukrainian Directory under Symon Petliura seizes Kyiv. Meanwhile, Bolshevik commander Mykola Shchors leads his division toward the capital, capturing Vinnytsia, Zhmerynka and other towns, though they lose Berdychiv to Petliura’s troops. Shchors’ courage rallies the demoralized Red soldiers, enabling a decisive counter‑offensive and victory.
