Set in the waning years of the Tokugawa shogunate, the film follows three ronin who have become the “Shadow Hunters.” Former samurai whose lords were slain, they refuse seppuku and instead wield their swords to shield vulnerable daimyos from a corrupt government exploiting them for valuable resources. Their actions are morally ambiguous, yet driven by a personal code of honor.
