The Israeli film depicts youthful sexuality in a cool, modern, Western setting with utilitarian décor and avant‑garde style. Banned at home, it confronts the myths of Israel as either an idealistic, self‑improving society or a militaristic‑orthodox state. Its varied intimate scenes, refined tone and political subtext mark it as a new‑generation testimony, culminating in a surreal sequence where a Virgin Mary awaits the Holy Spirit while a carpenter seeks vengeance by building a cross.
