Seducing Doctor Lewis

The small fishing village of Ste-Marie-la-Mauderne is introduced as a struggling community on the northern coast of Quebec. All residents are reliant on welfare, highlighting the dire economic situation they face.

Dr. Christopher Lewis, a plastic surgeon, is pulled over for speeding in his car. The officer, Réal Fournier, who happens to be the former mayor of the village, discovers cocaine in Dr. Lewis's possession, which leads to an unconventional deal between them.

As part of their agreement, Dr. Lewis is sent to Ste-Marie-la-Mauderne for a month. Fournier hopes to help the village by utilizing Dr. Lewis's medical skills and expertise, while the doctor has little choice but to comply.

Germain Lesage, the newly elected mayor and a welfare recipient, devises a clever plan to persuade Dr. Lewis to stay in the village. He and the residents start eavesdropping on Dr. Lewis’s phone calls to create a facade of shared interests.

Henri Giroux, the village banker, plays an important role by cashing welfare cheques and uplifting Dr. Lewis's spirits with surprise financial gifts. He also takes it upon himself to secure a loan to help fund the necessary bribe for the plastics company.

During his time in the village, Dr. Lewis meets Ève Beauchemin, the post office worker, and is immediately smitten. Despite being in a relationship with his girlfriend Brigitte back in Montreal, he finds a strong connection with Ève.

As the villagers begin to deceive the plastics company owner, they encounter difficulties securing the funds needed for the bribe. In a moment of desperation, Henri decides to use his own savings to cover part of the bribe needed for the factory.

The plastics company owner arrives in Ste-Marie to discuss plans for the factory. The villagers, still committed to their ruse, manage to convince him to agree to build the factory, provided they can secure a resident doctor.

Dr. Lewis discovers that his girlfriend Brigitte has been unfaithful, creating feelings of betrayal and despair. Torn between staying in the village and returning to Montreal, he reflects on the genuine connections he has formed with the townsfolk.

Feeling guilt over the village's deception, Germain tries to free himself from the lies they've told Dr. Lewis. He fabricates a story about securing another permanent doctor, but this only complicates matters further as tensions rise.

In a pivotal moment, Dr. Lewis confronts Germain and seeks clarity about their fabricated shared interests. Germain’s admission that he has no real interest in cricket reveals the depth of the deception, ultimately leading Dr. Lewis to make an important decision.

With emotions running high and understanding forged through their confrontation, Dr. Lewis decides to commit to staying in Ste-Marie. This resolves the villagers' struggle as they finally secure a doctor for the plastics factory.

The plastics factory is ultimately built in Ste-Marie-la-Mauderne, restoring hope and pride to the community. The successful negotiations bear fruit, bringing life back to the village that once faced decline.

Dr. Lewis embraces his new life in Ste-Marie, with five years ahead to win Ève's heart and establish strong ties with the community. Their relationship flourishes amidst the backdrop of the revitalized village.
