First of the seven “Doctor” comedies based on Richard Gordon’s novels (1954‑1970). Fresh medical student Simon Sparrow arrives at St Swithin’s Hospital in London, joins apprentices and is swept into the wooing, drinking and racing that typify 1950s medical training, under chief surgeon Sir Lancelot Spratt, who reminds them of purpose.
