Niccolò Vivaldi plays cello in the Arena di Verona Orchestra, remaining in the second chair and invisible. Frustrated, he finds solace in his wife Costanza, photographing her nude and showing them to a friend. He composes a comic opera, “Il merlo maschio,” only to realize it copies Rossini’s “La gazza ladra,” and shares it only with his wife.
