In the climax of Reptile, Tom uncovers the dark truth behind the murder of Summer Elswick. He discovers that Wally and Will, two corrupt officials, had been involved in a conspiracy that extended into the real estate and drug trades. They used Summer’s work as a cover to plant drugs at properties she sealed, which they then bought cheaply through companies linked to Wally and Will, turning a profit by reselling them. Tom eventually realizes that Allen, a trusted acquaintance, had been drawn into this scheme, but was murdered by Wally just as Tom was about to expose everything. In a tense showdown, Tom is betrayed when Marty, another officer, reveals himself as part of the conspiracy. Tom kills Marty in self-defense but manages to shoot Wally and escapes the chaos. His pursuit of justice costs him dearly, but he successfully ensures that Will Grady is arrested.

After the chaos, Judy helps Tom recover from his emotional scars by dipping his wounded hand in wax—a symbol of healing and renewal. The wax, used historically for medical purposes, represents Tom’s internal and external healing, shedding his old guilt and guilt for past silence. By the end, Tom appears to have reached a point of redemption, having faced his demons and brought the truth to light. The residue of the past and the violence fade away as Tom prepares to start anew, finally freed from the shadows that haunted him.
