On a small oil rig perched along a quiet Louisiana river, fortune suddenly smiles on the crew when a routine job turns into a high-stakes scramble. Former oil worker John Sanders, who left the trade after a catastrophic blowout that claimed four lives, teams up with Emery for a tense transport assignment: move Kelly, John’s ex-wife, and her boss to the remote drilling site. The work takes place under the shadow of the river’s murky currents, where the past and present collide in a rush of danger.

Close by, a trio of thugs dives for loot dumped in the river, hoping to cash in on a stolen haul. At the same time, a colossal bull shark slides into the water, its presence felt as a chilling omen. The local tribe believes the beast is a spirit in physical form, summoned as vengeance for the driller’s earlier misdeeds and the disruption of the sacred balance around the well. The shark’s arrival shifts the mood from tense anticipation to outright peril, and it begins to stalk the river and the rig, carving a path of terror that grows with each passing hour.

As the shark’s rampage intensifies, the town posts a $10,000 reward for its death, hoping to end the nightmare. Chaos erupts when John, Emery, Kelly, and her boss are seized by the three thugs, and Kelly’s boss is shot in the leg, bleeding out despite efforts to help him. A blowout on the oil rig leads to the deaths of two workers, and the shark circles the rig, seemingly to taunt the crew as it flicks through the water and skinning the surface with predatory intent.

The criminals force John and Kelly to dive for the stolen money, while the thugs drink, mock each other, and plot how to split the bounty. Tensions flare when Ice betrays his partner Brett with a lethal move to seize the money. John makes a break for it, aiding Kelly and Emery in escaping, and in a decisive moment, he shoots the fuel tank on his boat, bringing down Jerry in a fatal explosion. With only Ice left, the shark claims him too, sinking his hopes as the predator meets its end in a harsh turn of violence.

Driven by fury and a strange respect for the shark’s symbolic role, John draws the creature beneath the rig and, in a dramatic counterstrike, Emery activates the drill, forcing the trap to drop the rig’s bite right into the shark’s mouth. The beast is killed, ending its reign of terror, and the trio retrieves a tooth as proof of the kill—the shark had bitten John, breaking off its own tooth in the process.

With the danger finally quelled, the group debates whether to claim the reward. Emery, convinced the shark was a protective spirit, argues for leaving it to rest in peace now that it is dead. John nods to that sentiment and, in a quiet gesture, tosses the tooth back into the river. Just as they finish, a helicopter swoops in with the local sheriff to check on their fate, bringing a moment of calm after a storm of violence and survival.
