After being dismissed as a deputy bank branch manager, Heinz Hoschek returns to his parents’ empty flat, surrounded by Donauland self‑help books, garish curtains and an out‑of‑tune piano. The film follows the anti‑hero, played by Alfred Dorfer, as he reviews his shattered marriage and career, slipping between bitter irony, self‑pity, imagination and stark reality. His only solace is a steady intake of alcohol and Valium, marking him unmistakably as an underachiever.
