Based on true events in Shandong Province during World II, the film draws from guerrilla members’ memoirs and uses real names and actual locations, giving it a heightened realism compared to typical war movies. It focuses on the early period when the unit comprised only a few dozen fighters, omitting later growth to over 400 members and the larger offensives they later conducted.
