Elmer Fudd is duck hunting at a lake when he shoots a young duckling that falls into his boat. Daffy Duck emerges from the water, grabs the duckling, and places it back in the lake. Daffy warns Elmer that if he shoots one more duck, he will be in trouble.

Elmer shoots Daffy at point-blank range, removing feathers from Daffy's scalp. Daffy declares war and jumps back into the lake to plan his counterattack. Elmer retaliates by shooting Daffy in the rear, stripping more feathers.

Daffy gets on a hot air balloon with a bomb to drop on Elmer's boat. He lights the fuse, but the bomb explodes instantly, blowing up the balloon along with Daffy and the remnants of the balloon. Gravity pulls them downward as the attack fails.

Dynamite in the mask fails to deter him

While Elmer is making duck calls, Daffy, in a deep diving mask, drops a stick of dynamite into Elmer's boat. Elmer quickly slides the dynamite into Daffy's mask, and it detonates in Daffy's face. Daffy escapes, slightly worse for wear but alive.

Elmer, wrapped in bandages, decides that duck hunting is too risky and tries fishing instead. He hooks a miniature barracuda, then a larger one rises from the lake to threaten him, warning that more fish will bring trouble. Daffy then emerges from under Elmer's hat and mutters a final quip before hopping away.

Explosive finale on the lake

Elmer ties Daffy up with rope and sends him out into the lake on a boat loaded with explosives. The boat sails toward the pier, circles back, and as it returns, Daffy jumps into the water. The boat explodes at the precise moment it reaches the pier.

Elmer, still bandaged, tries fishing again and is taunted by a larger barracuda that rises from the lake to warn him. Daffy emerges from under Elmer's hat, mutters a line about a strong union, and hops away across the water to end the confrontation.
