Pufnstuf

Jimmy is wrongly expelled from the school band after tripping. His flute then transforms into Freddy, a magical talking instrument, signaling the start of their unlikely journey. Together they head off on an adventure beyond the classroom.

Freddy and Jimmy reach Living Island, a place where everything is alive. They befriend its colorful inhabitants and meet Mayor H.R. Pufnstuf who pledges help. The island's strange wonders set the tone for their quest ahead.

Witchiepoo hatches a plan to steal Freddy to impress the Witches' Council and the Boss Witch. She aims to win the Witch of the Year Award by obtaining the magical flute. She begins by disguising herself to get close to Freddy.

Witchiepoo abducts Freddy by posing as a dance instructor, prompting Jimmy and friends to act. They retreat to Dr Blinky's to devise a rescue plan. A talking chimney inspires their strategy as they prepare to strike back.

To reach the castle, they disguise themselves as firemen while Googy Gopher digs a tunnel. Their plan is to create a fake fire to draw out Witchiepoo and approach the fortress. Freddy is recovered during this risky operation.

Orville Pelican delivers the day's mail and sparks an idea to escape. Jimmy and Freddy attempt to hitch a ride in Orville's beak, but the extra weight causes a crash. The incident foreshadows the danger of leaving the island behind.

Witchiepoo learns Boss Witch is bringing a witch convention to her castle and demands Freddy's presence. In retaliation, she bombs Pufnstuf's town and destroys the Vroom Broom with the West Wind. Chaos erupts as the island's defenses fail.

Feeling responsible for the danger, Jimmy leaves with his flute to spare the island from further harm. Witchiepoo returns to town disguised as a flower and shrinks all inhabitants, imprisoning them in her castle dungeon. Jimmy resolves to save his friends.

Witchiepoo plans to cook Pufnstuf by placing him on a rotisserie with an apple in his mouth. Boss Witch and the Witches' Council arrive for the convention and Jimmy disguises himself as a witch to enter. Freddy is stolen again and the group is forced into the castle dungeon.

Googy Gopher digs into the dungeon to free his friends, rescuing most but leaving Pufnstuf in danger. A deal forms: Boss Witch will crown Witchiepoo Witch of the Year if she surrenders Freddy. The bargain shifts the balance of power for a moment.

From Dr Blinky's, they learn that the only thing that scares witches is a good fairy angel. They disguise themselves as white fairy angels and raid the castle, scaring off the Witches' Council. They manage to save Freddy and Pufnstuf in the process.

Witchiepoo realizes the ruse and flies to warn Boss Witch to return. Orson drops the doomsday bomb inside the vehicle while taking the wheel, blowing the Vroom Broom apart. Witchiepoo and Orson plummet to earth, defeated for now.

With the witches defeated for the moment, Jimmy and his friends celebrate their hard-fought victory. They perform a closing musical number, and Pufnstuf proclaims that when good friends pull together, they can do anything. The island returns to peace for now.
