A newly heart‑broken doctor, Alexandra Kendall, leaves Chicago for Hartford and joins the aging Dr. Walter McInterny’s practice. When 17‑year‑old student Elizabeth “Buffy” Koenig injures a leg during a football game, Alexandra discovers the fracture hides a bone cancer. While treating her, they forge a deep bond, with Alexandra drawn to Buffy’s humor and raw honesty, as Buffy balances life with boyfriend Gerry, a high‑school football player.
