In the 1970s, a chimpanzee named Nim becomes the subject of a pioneering experiment designed to explore language acquisition and the boundaries of what it means to be human. Raised within a family setting, Nim’s development is closely observed, leading to surprising insights into both his cognitive abilities and the complexities of human nature. The film offers a compelling and often humorous look at the profound connection between humans and animals, raising questions about intelligence, communication, and the essence of personhood.
