Maggie, the headlining comedienne of the Follies, falls offstage into the orchestra pit and lands on drummer Al Cassidy. Their meeting sparks romance and marriage; Al becomes a celebrated songwriter while Maggie stays home to raise their children. Later, Al is hired to write a showpiece for Selma Larson, a top Follies star, and falls for her.
