A famed crime novelist’s protégé vanishes just before his first new book is released. The disappearance could be a publicity stunt, or the author may have created a dark muse for fresh material. Detective Cooper, doubtful of a stunt, follows the trial that made the book a bestseller, to separate fact from fiction as the case twists into a deadly plot.
