This unsettling, pulse-quickening anthology stitches together seven dark vignettes that bend reality and plunge characters into feverishly surreal scenarios. Each segment stacks claustrophobic tension with grotesque imagery, inviting viewers to question what is real as fear takes on a life of its own.
The Pit and the Pendulum — A medical test subject wakes alone in a stark white-walled chamber. A black hole suddenly opens in the floor, drawing his attention downward and fueling a spiral of paranoia. As his mind teeters on the edge, he hallucinates a monstrous creature emerging from the pit, and in a moment of sheer terror, he begins clawing out his own eyes.
Alone — In a dim warehouse, a tormentor known as Pepper Face subjects a captive to brutal treatment. When the man regains consciousness, he escapes into another room to discover his wife Sara bound to a table with all of her limbs severed. Overwhelmed by grief and rage, he strikes his wife down with a lead pipe, then confronts Pepper Face and ends him as well. The brutal scene concludes with the realization that he is being watched, and soon after we see him transported to a confinement, his fate sealed behind bars.
Loss of Breath — The self-absorbed porno actor Francesco Falcon receives a blunt reality check from his agent Giovanni, who tells him that mainstream casting directors won’t take him seriously. During a charged encounter, Francesco experiences an alarming shortness of breath. Under the orders of his rival Manero, two thugs capture and castrate him. Francesco fights back, kills his captors, and recovers his severed penis. His body is later found hanged, buried in a mausoleum, yet the strange condition that robbed him of breath spares him from suffocation. He secretly escapes the vault with a hidden stash of money, while the world assumes he has died.
Morgue Street — A monstrous, apelike creature breaks into a flat to assault two prostitutes before its master returns to bind the beast. The surviving prostitute defends herself by slashing the creature’s throat with a razor, and the creature mourns its master’s death in a eerie moment of remorse.
The Tell-Tale Heart — A homeless derelict struggles to reform his wayward life, haunted by the sounds of his own conscience and the weight of his uncertain future. The story follows his attempts to break free from the patterns that torment him and the persistent chorus of guilt that gnaws at him from within.
The System of Dr. Tarr & Prof. Fether — In Elbasani, Albania, 1977, a researcher arrives at a mental asylum to learn about its controversial methods. After drinking a strange sherry, he experiences vivid visions when he encounters Dr. Tarr, Prof. Fether, and the inmates. The researcher’s perspective shifts sharply as he becomes a tarred-and-feathered patient himself, soon at the mercy of an asylum now run by those who were once its inmates.
The Premature Burial — Buried alive in a wooden coffin, a frantic man claws his way back toward the surface. Once he emerges, he discovers a world where the dead seem to be returning to life, a disturbing echo of his own ordeal.
