What Happens in Planet Single 2: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Planet Single 2 (2018) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

Ania Kwiatkowska, played by Agnieszka Więdłocha, is a 27-year-old single woman working as a music teacher at an elementary school. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she decides to try online dating. After being stood up by a user known as "Ant_Man", she catches the attention of Maciej Stuhr, who plays Tomek Wilczyński. Tomek is a highly successful and popular TV host and puppeteer who is well-acquainted with the attention of women. Viewing Ania's vulnerability and unsuccessful dating situation as an opportunity for a "game," he attempts to use his charm and status to convince her to sleep with him. However, Ania is completely unimpressed by his brashness and blunt approach, firmly informing him that she expects knightly behavior from anyone seeking her affection.

In a retaliatory move, Tomek creates a puppet named "Hania" for his television show, designed to look exactly like Ania. He uses the puppet to mock her personality and behavior on air. The segment is such a massive hit with the audience that the network schedules the show for primetime. This shift in direction leads to the replacement of Piotr Głowacki, who plays Marcel Galiński, the show's producer and Tomek's long-time friend.

Needing more material for his popular segment, Tomek tracks down Ania and proposes a business arrangement: if she continues to go on online dates and provides him with the details of her experiences to use as inspiration for his sketches, he will donate a brand new piano to her school. Ania agrees and begins using the dating app "Planet Single" to find suitors. While the resulting sketches are a huge success, Ania begins a friendly digital correspondence with a mysterious user called "Bitter-Sweet". Despite Ania's desire to meet in person, "Bitter-Sweet" insists on chatting only. Meanwhile, Ania's relationship with her estranged mother remains tense, as her mother strongly disapproves of her online dating habits.

The plot thickens when "Ant_Man", whose real name is Antonio, reappears and begs for a second chance. Ania agrees to a date and finds herself genuinely liking him. Antonio reveals that he has been a widower for several months and missed their first date because he had to care for his daughter. When Ania shares this with Tomek, he becomes consumed by jealousy, as he has slowly begun falling in love with her. Convinced that Antonio's story is far-fetched and that he is simply manipulating Ania, Tomek takes drastic action.

Tomek and Piotr Głowacki (Marcel) track down a woman they believe to be Antonio's wife. They crash the second date between Ania and Antonio, with Tomek recording the entire scene on camera and loudly accusing Antonio of being a cheater. However, the plan backfires spectacularly when it is revealed that the woman is actually Antonio's sister. Devastated and disgusted by Tomek's behavior, Antonio leaves. Ania is furious; she scolds Tomek and declares that she never wants to see him again. Marcel, appalled by Tomek's lack of ethics, resigns from his position.

A few days later, Antonio visits Ania to tell her that they cannot continue dating. The chaos caused by Tomek made him realize that he is not yet emotionally ready for a serious relationship. The two part ways on amicable terms.

As the finale of Tomek's show approaches, the production team intends to air the recording of the disastrous date, much to Tomek's deep regret. In a final act of redemption, Tomek enlists the help of Marcel to hijack the broadcast. Instead of the scandalous footage, he airs a montage of "Hania's" past dates, revealing that those men actually found love because of their failed experiences with her. Tomek delivers a heartfelt speech praising "Hania," describing her as brave, honest, and confident—qualities he admits he lacks. He presents her as an everyday hero and warns the viewers not to end up alone as he has.

Moved by the speech, Ania's mother finally reconnects with her daughter. Shortly after, Ania notices that "Bitter-Sweet" is trying to contact her again. She agrees to a date and discovers that the mysterious user was actually Tomek all along. In a grand gesture, Tomek arrives at the date dressed in full knight armor, confessing his love for her, and the two share a kiss.

Parallel to this, a subplot involves Weronika Książkiewicz, who plays Ola, a hairdresser and friend of Ania. Ola is fired from her job because she ignores her clients' requests to follow her own "infallible" professional vision. Her boyfriend, Tomasz Karolak, who plays Bogdan (the director of Ania's school), is disappointed by her lack of discipline. Furthermore, Bogdan's daughter, Joanna Jarmołowicz, who plays Zośka, harbors a deep hatred for Ola, blaming her for the fact that her mother left the family.

When Ania reveals that Bogdan has a profile on "Planet Single", Ola suspects he is cheating. She creates a fake profile to trap him and begins chatting with "Bogdan." However, the profile is actually a fake created by Joanna Jarmołowicz (Zośka) to manipulate the couple into breaking up. Bogdan, seeing Ola's fake profile, believes she is the one cheating. This culminates in a loud, public argument where both believe the other is unfaithful, leading to their breakup. Zośka records the fight and posts it online.

Eventually, Bogdan is miserable, and Zośka begins to feel guilty for her deception. She visits Ola to apologize and explain the fake profiles, urging her to return to Bogdan. Ola initially refuses, realizing that the situation highlighted a lack of compatibility and that Zośka's behavior reflected a troubled family dynamic. However, after one of "Hania's" former dates finds love with one of Ola's previous clients, and Zośka accidentally calls Ola "mom", Bogdan reaches out once more. The three eventually reconcile and grow together as a family.

Planet Single 2 Plot Explained: Your Questions Answered

The questions people ask most about Planet Single 2 (2018): what happens in the confusing scenes, why the characters do what they do, the twists, hidden details and what the ending means. Each answer contains spoilers.

Q1

Why does Tomek create the 'Hania' puppet based on Ania?

In Planet Single 2, after his first awkward encounter with Ania, Tomek uses her as inspiration for a puppet called 'Hania' on his show and openly mocks her dating behavior. The sketch is such a hit with viewers that the network promotes the show to a primetime slot, which ironically triggers the replacement of Tomek's producer and friend Marcel. The puppet is what first ties Ania into Tomek's world and sets the entire deal between them in motion.

Foreshadowing: Tomek's mockery of Ania through the puppet foreshadows his growing obsession with her, which later turns into genuine love.

Q2

Why does Tomek interrupt Ania's second date with Antonio?

Tomek has slowly fallen for Ania through their deal, and when he hears Antonio's story about being a widower, he finds it too convenient and suspects manipulation. Determined to expose what he sees as a lie, Tomek tracks down a woman he believes is Antonio's wife and, together with Marcel, storms the restaurant while filming everything. The plan collapses when the woman turns out to be Antonio's sister, proving Antonio was honest all along and publicly humiliating an innocent man.

Foreshadowing: Tomek's jealousy over Ania dating someone else had already been hinted at when he dismissed Antonio's story the moment she told him about it.

Q3

Why is the woman Tomek brings to Antonio's date not actually his wife?

Tomek jumps to conclusions and assumes the woman he finds is Antonio's cheating wife, but she is in fact Antonio's sister. Antonio had been telling the truth the entire time about being a widower and missing the first date because of his daughter. The mix-up means Tomek's on-camera 'exposure' humiliates an innocent widower and destroys any trust Ania had left in him.

Foreshadowing: Antonio's calm explanation of his past and his reluctance to overshare with Tomek early on hinted that his story was real, not fabricated.

Q4

Why does Antonio walk away from Ania after the public confrontation?

Even though Tomek is proven wrong, the restaurant scene has already publicly labeled Antonio a cheater on camera, and the damage to his reputation is done. Antonio visits Ania a few days later to explain that the ordeal has made him realize he is still not emotionally ready for a serious relationship after losing his wife. He and Ania part on good terms, but the chapter with Antonio closes for good.

Foreshadowing: Antonio's hesitation to define the relationship on the second date foreshadowed that he was not yet ready to commit.

Q5

Why does Tomek hijack the final episode of his show?

Tomek is horrified that the recorded confrontation with Antonio is scheduled to air in the finale, because it would expose both his cruelty and Ania's identity. He seeks out Marcel, the producer he has just made amends with, and together they replace the footage with a tribute video of 'Hania's' past dates who all found love, followed by a personal speech about bravery and honesty. The hijack lets Tomek publicly humble himself without ever revealing that 'Hania' is really Ania.

Foreshadowing: Tomek's earlier regret after the Antonio stunt foreshadows his willingness to risk his entire show to make things right.

Q6

Who is 'Bitter-Sweet' on the Planet Single dating app?

'Bitter-Sweet' is actually Tomek, who has been chatting with Ania under a fake profile without ever revealing his identity. After Ania notices he has been trying to reach her again, she sets up a meeting, and Tomek finally steps out from behind the screen. He arrives in knight armor, confesses his love, and the two kiss, closing the romantic arc of Planet Single 2.

Foreshadowing: Ania's early complaint that no suitor behaves like a true knight foreshadows the reveal that her online mystery man will literally show up as one.

Q7

Why does Tomek show up to the final date dressed in knight armor?

Early in Planet Single 2, after Tomek tries to take advantage of her vulnerability, Ania tells him she expects knightly behavior from any man who wants her. When Tomek finally reveals himself as 'Bitter-Sweet,' he honors that original request by showing up in full knight armor. The costume is his way of proving to Ania that he has become the kind of man she always deserved.

Foreshadowing: Ania's early demand for chivalrous behavior foreshadows that Tomek's eventual romantic gesture would literally take the form of a knight.

Q8

Why does Marcel resign as the show's producer?

Marcel is Tomek's long-time friend and producer, but the Antonio confrontation pushes their relationship past its breaking point. He is both embarrassed by Tomek's cruel stunt and disillusioned by how far Tomek has fallen from the person he thought he was working with. His resignation isolates Tomek professionally and personally, though the two later reconcile in time to hijack the final episode together.

Foreshadowing: Marcel's growing discomfort whenever Tomek mocked 'Hania' hinted that he was reaching the limits of what he would tolerate.

Q9

Why does Zośka set up fake dating profiles for Bogdan and Ola?

Zośka openly dislikes Ola and has long blamed her for her mother leaving the family, so she wants to destroy the relationship. She creates a fake profile for her father Bogdan on Planet Single, which makes Ola think Bogdan is cheating, and the misunderstanding snowballs from there. The scheme works too well, causing a very public breakup that Zośka later regrets and tries to undo.

Foreshadowing: Zośka's hostile remarks about Ola early in the film foreshadow that she would eventually take action against the relationship.

  • ola

Q10

Why does Ola initially refuse to come back after Zośka apologizes?

Once Zośka confesses the fake profile scheme, Ola does not rush back into the relationship. The breakup forces Ola to reflect, and she realizes she is not truly ready to be a good stepmother to Zośka and is not as compatible with Bogdan as she had thought. Reconciliation only happens later, after Zośka accidentally calls her 'mom' and shows real emotional growth.

Foreshadowing: Ola's firing from her hairdressing job earlier in the film foreshadowed her tendency to ignore others' needs, which she must confront before reconciling.

Q11

What triggers Bogdan and Ola to reconcile?

After Ola's initial refusal, reconciliation begins when Zośka accidentally calls Ola 'mom' during an emotional moment. That slip of the tongue shows Ola that Zośka has genuinely accepted her, and it prompts Bogdan to reach out and rebuild their bond. By the end of Planet Single 2, the three of them have grown back into a real family.

Foreshadowing: Zośka's earlier hostility toward Ola was already cracking when she showed visible regret right after publishing the breakup video.

Q12

Why does Ania's estranged mother reconnect with her at the end?

Ania's mother had disapproved of her online dating throughout Planet Single 2, but Tomek's emotional speech about 'Hania' on the final episode changes her mind. The way he praises 'Hania's' bravery, honesty, and confidence moves her, and she finally reaches out to repair their broken relationship. The mother's return ties the family thread together right alongside the romantic resolution between Ania and Tomek.

Foreshadowing: Ania's mother's visible discomfort with the dating app earlier hinted that her disapproval was rooted in protectiveness rather than rejection.

Q13

Why is Tomek's show moved to primetime in Planet Single 2?

The debut of the 'Hania' puppet sketch draws such strong audience reactions that the network decides the segment deserves a primetime slot. The promotion is what triggers the replacement of Tomek's producer Marcel, raising the personal and professional stakes for everyone involved. Without that primetime move, the chain of events that exposes Tomek's true feelings would never have unfolded.

Foreshadowing: Tomek's overconfidence after the puppet's success foreshadowed that the bigger stage would eventually expose his flaws.
